Exploring the territory: e-journal lists and directories

Many institutions maintain lists of electronic journals. To get an idea of the magnitude of the impact of e-journals, take a look at the following sites:

http://gort.ucsd.edu/newjour/

"The Internet list for new journals and newsletters available on the Internet." NewJour is a mechanism for the announcement of new electronic journals, including those that are free and not-yet-published. There is a link to the subscription form for the NewJour discussion list, to which you can subscribe to receive the announcements and descriptions. On June 10, 1998, the list contained 5905 journal titles. On June 14, 1999, the list contained 7898 titles. On March 7, 2000, it contained 8474 titles. On September 21, 2001, it contained 10958 titles.

The Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries maintains the "Electronic Journal Miner," a list of internet-accessible journals, both free and available by subscription. This list can be searched by keyword, and there are separate listings organized by LC Subject Heading and Title. Searches can be limited to free and/or peer-reviewed journals. Each e-journal has a unit record with a description and contact information, and links to the journal site. This list also contains a directory of major publishers of e-journals and a list of links to other directories of e-journals (http://ejournal.coalliance.org/info/other.html).

An excellent collection of lists of electronic journals from the State of Georgia's Galileo project, divided into General Indexes, Multiple-Subject Journal Collections, Single-Subject Journal Collections, Popular Magazines, Foreign Publications, and New Journal Announcements .
