Facsimile edition of

Psalterium Sancti Ruperti:

Salzburg, Stiftsbibliothek St. Peter, Codex a I 0

Graz: Akademische Druck- und Verlagsanstalt, 2007

(Codices Selecti, volume 112)

This facsimile edition is a bibliophile rarity due to its small format of 3.7 x 3.1 cm (37 x 31 mm). The size of the letters of 1.5 mm and the line space of 1 mm indicate a unique accomplishment of the scribe of this psalter. The unknown scribe must according to comparative and palaeographic tests have composed the Psalterium in the period between 850 and 875 in the Northeastern part of France.

The small booklet has been in the possession of the Monastery St. Peter in Salzburg ever since the 15th century. The binding dates back to the late Middle Ages and is a rare example of local binding insofar as the wooden covers are not connected by leather, so that the spine of the book remained open.

The facsimile comes in a standard and in a luxury edition. The latter includes a replica of the book case in which the Psalterium Sancti Ruperti has been kept in the Monastery Library. It is a book shaped case produced in Salzburg in the 17th century. The book case has a leather spine and two metal locks have been added in the 19th century.

The subscription price, valid until release, is EUR 990.00 (currently corresponding to USD 1,345.00) for the standard edition, EUR 1,789.00 (USD 2,420.00) for the luxury edition.

The final prices will be EUR 1,380.00 and 2,280.00.

Please place standing orders through your normal library channels, or contact service@harrassowitz.de for further information.
