Deutsche Literatur-Lexikon. Das Mittelalter records the literary and professional writing in German from the 8th to the end of the 15th centuries. In addition the lexicon incorporates important Latin authors and works from this period such as Bernhard of Clairvaux or the Carmina Burana and includes representatives from Classical Antiquity and neighboring European Literatures as long as they influenced the Germanophone world, such as Ovid or Chrétien de Troyes.
There are over 6,000 articles grouped by topic, areas and genres. Each section is prefaced by a short introduction classifying every subject in terms of literary and cultural history. The indexes of all volumes will be amalgamated and published as a separate volume once the work will be completed.
The articles inform in a detailed, but concise way about the writer’s life and work, its content, background, and reception, reflecting the latest state of research. They incorporate sections on tradition, editions and selected translations as well as a list of the most important secondary literature.
