The historian Josef Becker of the University of Augsburg undertook a thorough investigation into the sources of the diplomatic and political events that led to the war 1870/71. His findings resulted in a remarkable reevalution of the role of Bismarck and abolished the legends of a German defensive military action that was allegedly behind the war of 1870/71 and thus of the foundation of the Reich. |
